Runway Look of the Day: ChanelFrom Russia (and Paris), with Love — Karl Lagerfeld readily admits his Russian inspirations for this pre-fall collection: the Ballets Russes, Constructivism, Byzantine jewelry, and Slavic folklore. Aptly named “Paris-Moscou”, the collection was full of red, over-the-top furs and embellishments, leather leggings, and fringe. I absolutely was fascinated by the amazing headresses and thrilled with the revival of muffs.

Although it was nearly impossible to pick one look as my favorite, I ended up going with the show-closer, this amazing dress and head piece that succinctly melded several different trends of the collection into one. I loved the way the scalloped layers of the bodice appeared to be breaking away from the ombre portion of the dress.

Atelier Chardon Savard – Creators’ Collections

They say France has lost its edge. They say that if you want to find ground breaking fashion, go look in New York, or London. They say innovation has ceased to be the daily baguette in the streets of Paris.

Well, I’m not so sure about that anymore. Monday I was invited to attend the show of Atelier Chardon Savard’s Creator’s Collections. Atelier Chardon Savard is a designer school that’s up and running since 1988, and the show gave a thorough look at the work of their third year students. And what a show it was.

Imagination wasn’t lacking, that’s for sure. In less than three hours, I’ve been taken to the African savannah, a Mexican death festival, a sorcerer’s cave and Lolita’s playground. Huckleberry Finn was there too. It seems that the students weren’t afraid to travel far and beyond.
I’m planning to go on shopping in Paris, that’s for sure (well, when the crisis is over…)

Lindsay Lohan's Fashion Designer Debut for Emanuel Ungaro Panned
Lindsay Lohan burst into tears during the Paris Fashion Week runway show for Emanuel Ungaro, the fashion house for which she was a design consultant this past season.
The actress-turned-fashion designer walked the runway with Spanish designer Estrella Archs, the latest head designer hired by Emanuel Ungaro, at the end of the show for her new collection and was obviously overwhelmed. Backstage the actress called her collaboration with Emanuel Ungaro, “the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

The post-show applause was little more than a polite courtesy, as many audience members were left aghast at the sight of the sloppy and seemingly unfinished designs, as well as the glimpse of sequined pasties covering models’ breasts as the strutted the runway in blazers which would flap open — revealing nothing underneath.
“The reviews are in for the actress Lindsay Lohan’s controversial turn as a hired muse for the house of Emanuel Ungaro, and let’s just say her arrival was greeted by critics as if a McDonald’s fry cook had been installed as the chef of a three-star Michelin restaurant,” wrote the NY Times’ Eric Wilson.

And later: “Ungaro’s latest maneuver was at least effective in drawing a heavy-hitting audience, as the editors in chief of Harper’s Bazaar, In Style and Elle and buyers from Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Bergdorf Goodman all attended. But they scrambled for the exits as soon as the show ended, with little applause as Ms. Lohan and Ms. Archs took a bow together on the runway. One retail chief said he had asked for a ticket only because he thought the show would be a spectacle. Another said he would not buy the line, but declined to identify himself ‘because I don’t want my name associated with that train wreck.’”

Hint magazine called the collection “pinky but not panky, and honestly not good enough to be part of the official Paris calendar.” Furthermore, Lohan apparently went shopping the day before the Ungaro runway show and then handed the bill over to Ungaro to be paid. “And then, after a hard day of shopping, she had a wild night and canceled an interview with Suzy Menkes. [Does] one refuse an audience with the pope because of a hangover? She did.”
